On Saturday July 19th Greg supervised a small group of us while we set up and operated the Red Cross satellite terminal. There is only a couple of places in the procedure that can be considered critical and these are mostly in the mechanical part of the process and once you have seen this, it will not be hard for anyone to remember how to set this up.
This device would allow two way telephone and internet service without any supporting infrastructure in the event a storm took out all terrestrial communication.
There is a Red Cross requirement that this system be exercised two times a month during hurricane season and we will post these dates on our Calendar of Events. We strongly encourage all club members to attend at least one of these exercises just to see how this device is set up. Its not that complicated so that someone with proper documentation could not blunder through it, but if you have the experience to actually see how its set up, this will eliminate any potential for a disagreement should an actual emergency require the use of this instrument.
