On Saturday Oct 25th we worked 37 countries in just a matter of hours. 20 meters was a zoo but we hung in there with the best of them. We utilized the capability to point the antenna to our advantage. We also go a chance to check out both the Drake TR-7s. One of the TR-7s does not transmit on AM and this would have come in handy when we were using a tuner to eek out every watt from the radio. We made a number of contacts on 10m and a substantial number on 15m in addition to contacts on 40. We made two contacts with stations in Hawaii in addition to many in Europe, former soviet countries, Africa, south and central America and some places I have never heard of.

We found out that the 80m dipole is better at 3.6 than 3.9 but the beam is so resonant on all bands that the autotuner refused to apply a setting.

As a side note, we are considering trying a net on 80m and we might start right after the ARES net on Wednesday night. Typically 80m nets are purely rag chew, but ours would be a little different as we would strongly discourage bad and derogatory language that you might have heard on 75 and 80m.

The next time we have one of these operating events or enter a contest, you should consider dropping by. We learn a little something each time we do one of these and we help each other improve our operating skills and its a bit of a rush when you make contact with another ham half a world a away.
