Simulated Emergency Test
The Objective of the SET is to explore the capabilities of station to station communications around Brevard County. The SET is conducted from Red Cross Rockledge headquarters which is centrally located and provides coordination to the north and south participants. Three repeaters are used initially to announce the start of the SET, check in participating stations and dispense assignments. The 146.91 repeater is used in the North, the 145.37 repeater in the Central and the 146.84 repeater in the South. Each region will have a net control operator to check in the participants, inform them of the test plan and schedule and dispense assignments if necessary. The SET coordinator will contact each of the net control operators on their respective repeaters to receive the list of participants and their locations. When the SET coordinator determines that all three regions are ready to transition to simplex, all stations transition to a single simplex frequency.
Once transitioned, the SET coordinator will make contact with the net control operators one at a time, and direct them to perform a roll-call of the participants in their region while the other regions listen and wait. Once the net control operators have established simplex contact with the participants in their region they report to the SET coordinator. Once the SET coordinator has reports from all regions, the net control operators will be directed one at a time to poll their participants to find out what stations can be heard outside their region and this information will also be reported back to the SET coordinator.
Once the SET coordinator has a picture of the topology, sets of participants will be chosen to attempt the longest distance two way contacts and an exchange between the northernmost station with the southernmost station using a central relay if necessary. The information to be exchanged needs only to be power used, antenna type and height.
Following the distance attempts, each net control operator will select participants in their region to attempt contacts with participants in the other regions. The SET is complete when all participants have had an opportunity to make a challenging contact.
